Private Residence

Vavla, Larnaca

2001-2006

Architecture State Award 2007

Area :  360 sqm

This traditional rural house in the village of Vavla has been renovated and extended to perform as the permanent residence of its new owner.

The main body of the historic building has been carefully repaired with strict adherence to original materials and technics. The smaller in scale contemporary additions have been done in steel, glass and exposed concrete, in a way that the resulting contrast reinforces the identity of each part, old and new. The honest representation of each period of intervention reveals the historic depth of the original structure, the evolution of the building in time and its adaption to contemporary living norms.
